This miniature wooden dog was designed primarily as a car rearview mirror hanging ornament inspired by traditional Japanese protective animal charms. In Japanese culture, small handcrafted animal carvings are often associated with safe journeys and protection.
I shaped this dog with visible chisel facets to preserve the feeling of traditional Japanese wood carving — a craft history that spans centuries. The textured carving planes are intentionally kept to reflect true hand craftsmanship rather than factory smoothness.
This piece represents loyalty, guardianship, and safe travel.

Each dog is hand carved from natural basswood, a traditional carving wood valued for its fine grain and stability. It is then hand painted and assembled with decorative cord and bead elements for hanging.
